CyberSN is a cybersecurity staffing agency that developed a job matching platform solely for the cybersecurity industry. With CyberSN, job seekers can fill out a profile and employers can create and post jobs using a standardized taxonomy. This standardization is intended to make accurate matches and accelerate the job searching/hiring process.
Because of CyberSN's dual business model, the site's IA needed to be clear in order to get users where they need to go quickly.
UNDERSTANDING THE CURRENT EXPERIENCE -
When I joined, I immediately wanted to address the site’s architecture. I looked at the analytics of the site and noticed the bounce rates were extremely high and time spent on site was extremely low.

I wanted to address the following in the new design:
spacing between headers
the use of "marketing" terms
scale down the amount of subpages (choice paralysis)
clearly differentiate where each user belongs
DEFINING THE USERS -
My recommendation was to clearly separate the employers from the job seekers so I started off by defining CyberSN's main user groups.

We've been searching for the right candidates for months and I don't have time to do my current role AND recruit.

COMPETITIVE ANALYSIS -
I looked at a few competitors who have similar business models to see how their navigation is displayed. Popular sites such as Ziprecruiter, Upwork and Monster all separate the job seekers and the employers into two separate buckets right from the start. While they have slightly different takes on it, the user is guided to a certain section of their site immediately.

CARD SORTING -
There were a lot of different opinions on the navigation. Something I wanted to stress to the team was primary vs secondary navigation. Everyone agreed that the main goal is to drive revenue so removing subpages from the navigation that didn’t contribute to that helped consolidate.
To get everyone on the same page, I had each of them complete an open card sort. This helped me understand where people agreed and disagreed.

INFORMATION ARCHITECTURE -
Once the card sort was finished, I created a diagram to illustrate the new informational architecture that resembled their results.

FINAL DESIGNS -
I tested this solution with internal team members and we moved forward with the below solution. Since implementation, the bounce rate has decreased and time spent on site increased.
